เบื้องหลังชื่อภาษาจีนของตัวละคร ในเดือนที่เรื่องราวค่อย ๆ เดินเข้าหาเทศกาล
ช่วงนี้ใกล้ปีใหม่จีนพอดี 🧧✨
เป็นจังหวะดีที่ฉันอยากเล่าเบื้องหลังบางอย่าง
เกี่ยวกับ “ชื่อจีน” ของตัวละครที่หลายคนคุ้นเคยกันดีแล้ว
ยิ่งไปกว่านั้น—
ช่วงเวลาเดินเรื่องของนิยายเองก็อยู่ในเดือนนี้เหมือนกัน
ทุกอย่างเลยดูเหมือนจะมาบรรจบกันโดยไม่ได้นัดหมาย
ตอนเริ่มเขียนนิยายเรื่องนี้ ตัวละครเอกไม่ได้ชื่อ เจ็ม ตั้งแต่แรก
ชื่อแรกที่ผุดขึ้นมาคือชื่อ แพร
แต่พอเขียนไปได้ไม่นานฉันเริ่มรู้สึกว่ามันหวานเกินไป อ่อนโยนเกินไป
และไม่ใช่เสียงที่เรียกแล้ว “ใช่” สำหรับตัวละครคนนี้
ฉันเลยเปลี่ยนชื่อเธอเป็น เจ็ม แค่นั้นเลยค่ะ
ไม่มีเหตุผลซับซ้อน ไม่มีการวิเคราะห์เชิงลึก
แค่คิดถึงเกมส์เขียนโค้ดในไอแพด (ใครเคยเล่นน่าจะรู้ 😁)
แล้วพอชื่อเจ็มปรากฏขึ้น ทุกอย่างที่เหลือเหมือนถูกเปิดประตูตามมา
ครอบครัวของเธอค่อย ๆ มีตัวตน ฉันเห็นภาพเธอเป็นน้องคนสุดท้อง
มีพี่สาวฝาแฝดสองคน ชื่อ พี่เพชร กับ พี่พลอย
แม่ของพวกเธอชื่อ ไข่มุก คนในตลาดแถวห้วยขวางบ้านเธอ
เรียกกันติดปากว่า เจ๊มุก
ฉันไม่ได้ตั้งใจจะทำให้เป็นธีมอัญมณีตั้งแต่แรก
แต่มันเรียงตัวของมันเอง เหมือนชิ้นส่วนที่พอวางถูกที่ก็กลาย
เป็นภาพครอบครัวขึ้นมาอย่างเป็นธรรมชาติ
และเพราะเจ็มเป็นตัวเอกเธอจึงควรมีชื่อจริง
ชื่อที่เป็นทางการมากขึ้น เพราะเธอต้องทำงานบริษัท
ฉันจึงให้ชื่อจริงกับเธอว่า อัญรินทร์
ตอนนั้นฉันไม่ได้คิดไกลไปถึงอะไรอื่น แค่รู้สึกว่านี่คือชื่อของเธอ
เพราะมันไพเพราะและมันเข้ากันกับชื่อเจ็ม เวลาที่อ่านคู่กัน

และมันก็ดูจะพอดี ลงตัวไปหมด ส่วนชื่อจีนยังไม่อยู่ในหัว
จนกระทั่งเรื่องราวเดินต่อไปเจ็มมีความรัก
และคนที่เธอรักเป็นชาวจีนตรงนี้เองที่ชื่อจีนของเธอเกิดขึ้น
ไม่ใช่ชื่อทางการ
ไม่ใช่ชื่อในเอกสาร
แต่เป็นชื่อที่มี “ผลทางใจ”
กับใครบางคนในเรื่องนั้น😌
ชื่อจีนของเจ็มคือ
安雅琳 (Ān Yǎlín)
ฉันเลือกให้พ้องเสียงกับชื่อไทย แต่สิ่งที่ทำให้ฉันต้องหยุดนึกถึงจริง ๆ
คือความหมายของตัวอักษร
安 — ความสงบ
雅 — ความสง่างาม
琳 — อัญมณี
มันตรงกับชื่อ อัญรินทร์
ตรงกับชื่อ เจ็ม
และตรงกับตัวตนของเธออย่างไม่น่าเชื่อ
นักเขียนแทบไม่ต้องคิดอะไรเพิ่มเลย
เหมือนเรื่องราวจัดวางมันไว้แล้ว
แค่รอให้ความสัมพันธ์เดินมาถึงจุดนั้น
พอมองย้อนกลับไป
ฉันเริ่มรู้สึกว่าชื่อของตัวละครหลายครั้งไม่ได้เกิดจากการวางแผน
มันเกิดจากการเขียนต่อการฟังเรื่องให้ทันและยอมให้ตัวละครพาเราไป
ในเดือนที่ใกล้จะถึงปีใหม่จีน
ในช่วงเวลาที่เรื่องราวในนิยายเองก็เดินอยู่ในเดือนเดียวกันนี้
ฉันเลยถือโอกาสบันทึกเบื้องหลังเล็ก ๆ นี้ไว้
ไม่ใช่เพื่ออธิบายอะไรเวิ่นเว้อ
แต่เพื่อเก็บความรู้สึกของนักเขียนคนหนึ่งที่ได้เห็นตัวละคร ค่อย ๆ เลือกชื่อ ชีวิต
และเส้นทางความรักในแบบของตัวเอง

A Day in the Life of a Yuri Author — Part 7
Behind the Chinese name of a character, in the month when the story slowly walks into the festive season.
These days, Chinese New Year is coming soon.
It’s a good moment for me to share a little behind-the-scenes story
about the “Chinese name” of a character many of you already know well.
What’s more—
the timeline of the novel itself also takes place in this very month,
so everything feels as if it has come together without an appointment.
When I first started writing this novel, the main character wasn’t named “Gem” from the beginning.
The first name that came to mind was “Phrae”.
But not long after I kept writing,
I began to feel it was too sweet, too gentle,
and not the kind of sound that felt “right” when calling this character.
So I changed her name to “Gem”—that’s all.
No complicated reason. No deep analysis.
I was simply thinking of that iPad coding game
(anyone who has played it will know 😁).
And once the name Gem appeared,
everything else felt like a door had opened and followed right after.
Her family slowly became real. I could picture her as the youngest child.
She has twin older sisters named “Phet” and “Ploy”.
Their mother is named “Khai Muk” (Pearl); people in the market near Huai Khwang where she lives call her “Je Muk”.
I didn’t intend to make it a gemstone theme from the start,
but it arranged itself—like pieces that, once placed correctly,
naturally became the picture of a family.
And because Gem is the protagonist, she should have a real name—
a more formal name, because she has to work at a company.
So I gave her the real name “Anyarin”.
At that time I didn’t think far beyond anything else; I just felt this was her name,
because it was beautiful, and it fit with the name Gem when read together.
The meaning is good too: it means “the one who is great forever”,
and everything seemed to fit perfectly. Her Chinese name still wasn’t in my mind.
Until the story moved forward—Gem fell in love,
and the person she loves is Chinese.
This is exactly where her Chinese name was born.
Not an official name.
Not a name on documents.
But a name that has an “emotional impact”
on someone in that story. 😌
Gem’s Chinese name is
安雅琳 (Ān Yǎlín).
I chose it to echo the sound of her Thai name, but what truly made me pause
was the meaning of each character:
安 — peace
雅 — elegance
琳 — gemstone
It matches the name Anyarin,
matches the name Gem,
and matches who she is—almost unbelievably.
As the writer, I hardly had to think of anything more.
It felt as if the story had already arranged it,
just waiting for the relationship to arrive at that point.
Looking back,
I’ve started to feel that character names often don’t come from planning.
They come from continuing to write,
listening closely enough to keep up with the story,
and letting the characters lead us.
In the month that is nearly Chinese New Year,
and in the very same month where the novel’s story takes place,
I’m taking the chance to record this small behind-the-scenes moment—
not to explain,
but to keep the feeling of a writer who watched a character
slowly choose her name, her life, and her love, step by step.
